Let’s talk about pizzas. Or have an ordinary everyday chat, the kind you hear on the metro every day. If you listen carefully, though, you will see that, behind every absurd, innocent word, every cliché, you may discover a sordid, sad or desperate story. That is what Martin Crimp, one of Britain’s most outstanding contemporary playwrights, did as he transcribed audio tapes of market research interviews. From that material, he came up with a story in which the most banal words conceal the darkest truths. An abandoned wife, a conflictive teenager and an alleged paedophile talk about apparently-trivial issues in quick, short, tense, sometimes even funny dialogues.

In Carme Portacel’s production, Crimp’s text is mixed with dance and music to reflect a dual reality: what we say, and what we try to hide.
