Premiere on March 17, 2025, at Théâtre La Licorne in Montreal.
A mother tells us the story of the fifteen days of her son Libert’s life: from the overwhelming joy of his birth to the first complications, and ultimately to the painful realization that death is the best thing for her child. As her vision of the future shifts, she is confronted with difficult decisions and profound contradictions that challenge everything she once believed.
In this surprisingly humorous play, where music plays an important role, playwright Gemma Brió invites us to discover the humanity at the heart of this tragedy, highlighting the importance of friendship and of those who stand by us through life’s most difficult moments. The text also explores the ethical contradictions surrounding motherhood, death and the healthcare system. Libert is a tragic, courageous and moving journey and, above all, an ode to life and human dignity.
